Panicked Virginia Democrats Shamelessly Embark On Naked Power Grab

Panicked Virginia Democrats Shamelessly Embark On Naked Power Grab

Dems in Virginia are in a panic over the Republican momentum, which increases with each new Jay Jones scandal.

So they're yanking Winsome Earle-Sears off the campaign trail and forcing her to stop raising funds during a "special" General Assembly session scheduled to begin on Monday.

It's special all right. It’s a naked power grab and it reeks of desperation.

It also appears that Jason Miyares will have to stop raising money once the General Assembly goes  into special session. Virginia law prohibits statewide officer holders from fundraising during a session.

Fresh off their No Kings weekend, Virginia Democrats unveiled their most partisan, oligarchical, undemocratic move: With 12 days left before the election, Democrats are calling the General Assembly into a special session on Monday at 4 p.m..

This is unprecedented chicanery. It’s the behavior of grasping, machine-like politicians. This is Tammany Hall on the James.

Will Virginians recoil from these undemocratic tactics? We can only hope.

It could backfire. Democrats hold just a one-vote majority in each chamber. That means every Democrat delegate running for re-election will have to haul their derrières to Richmond and beclown themselves for a quorum. Republicans should ignore the session and continue to campaign and appeal to voters with common sense.

The purpose of the session odious: It aims to overturn the constitutional amendment passed by the people five years ago to establish an independent, bipartisan redistricting commission that was established to end gerrymandering of congressional districts in Virginia. As a byproduct, the special session will forces Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears to stay in Richmond to preside over the Senate while Abigail Spanberger chugs around the commonwealth on a bus tour.

Is this the behavior of a party poised to sweep the statewide elections?

No, it’s not.

Despite all the Democrat polls showing Abigail Spanberger with a comfortable lead (impartial polling shows a much tighter race) this move suggests that Spanberger’s internal polling shows the statewide races to be extremely close.

This ugly move is a part of a statewide sleight-of-hand aimed at bringing gerrymandering back to the commonwealth and bringing Hakeem Jeffries a 9-2 Democrat majority from Virginia. The commonwealth has 11 congressional districts. Six are presently held by Democrats, five by Republicans.

In its breathless attempt to flip three districts to majority blue, Dems want to vote quickly. If the measure passes for this time, they can vote on it against in the January term and a  referendum could be held as soon as next spring and the gerrymandered districts could be in place in time for the 2026 mid-term elections.

Spanberger once opposed gerrymandering. Not any more.

Don’t believe the lies. This is not the behavior of a party confident of victory in less than two weeks.

This is a political stunt by a party that nominated a clearly unqualified candidate for attorney general with a past so full of scandals that he’s dragging down the entire ticket.
