Jay Jones: Now He’s The Target Of A Criminal Investigation

Jay Jones: Now He’s The Target Of A Criminal Investigation

Whoa!

Jay Jones is in deep trouble.

Just when the Dems’ attorney general nominee was hoping the daily headlines about his scandals might abate, he’s back in the news.

And it’s worse than ever.

According to Nick Minock, reporting for ABC News, Elliott Bondurant, a courageous New Kent County Circuit Court Judge - unafraid of Virginia’s powerful Dem machine - appointed a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of Jones’ sweetheart reckless driving deal.

Specifically, the investigation will center on how Jones cleared his 1,000 hours of community service, which allowed him to avoid possible jail time.

This arises out of his January 2022 arrest for flying along I-64 at 116 mph at 1 a.m. After numerous delays, his case was resolved with a guilty plea in 2024 after he supposedly performed 1,000 hours of “community service.” Half of those hours involved “work” at his own political action committee.

Unlike offenders with similar charges, Jones neither lost his driving privileges nor went to jail. Or even had a suspended jail sentence.

This case reeks. Jones is a member of a prominent Norfolk family. Apparently it’s good to have connections.

The special prosecutor is Nathan Green, Commonwealth Attorney of Williamsburg and James City.

Here’s Minock’s report:

Earlier this month, 7News reported exclusively that people caught driving even slower than Jones in New Kent County got jail time and had their licenses suspended, but not Jones. Instead, Jones paid a fine and got community service hours.

After being convicted of reckless driving in New Kent County a few years ago, Jones was required to complete 1,000 hours of community service. Court records show Jones presented two letters to the court certifying he had completed 500 hours of service at the NAACP and another 500 hours at an organization called “Meet our Moment”.

The New Kent County Commonwealth’s Attorney told 7News that Jones’ community service documentation did not make clear that Meet Our Moment was a political action committee, or that it was Jones’ own political action committee.

Community service must be performed at a nonpolitical, nonprofit organization, said the prosecutor.

“It’s supposed to be something where you’re giving back to the community,” New Kent County Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott Renick said.

Uh-oh.

Here’ the question: How can a man run to be Virginia’s attorney general while he’s the subject of a criminal investigation?

Quit now, Jay, and save yourself any further embarrassment.

He won’t.

Dems never believe the rules that apply to ordinary decent people apply to them.

For the past month Jay Jones has been lurching from one scandal to the next.  First it was the report of his reckless driving. Next we learned he sent text messages to a colleague fantasizing about putting “two bullets’ in the head of GOP leader Todd Gilbert. Even more grotesque, Jones wished the Gilbert children - aged 2 and 5 - to die in their mothers’ arms. After all, they were nothing but “little fascists” to Jones.

Then the same colleague who had texted with Jones said that during a discussion about qualified immunity for law enforcement officers - which Jones opposes - Jones said he hoped cops would die so they’d stop using lethal force in their line of work.

Jones denies saying that. Few believe him.

Despite this mountain of muck, not a single Democrat leader has called for Jones to drop out of the race. In fact, Abigail Spanberger proudly showed off her ballot last week, proving she voted for this highly unqualified man.

The Jones affair highlights the craven nature of politics. Spanberger and others know that Jason Miyares is a far better choice for attorney general. He’s smart, competent and an ethical attorney. They also know Miyares has done a good job during his first term in office. Yet they support the guy who needs psychiatric help - and who now is the target of a criminal investigation - simply because he has a D after his name.

Even the left-leaning political scientist Larry Sabato told 7News he believes this “October Surprise” is entirely Jones’ own fault.

“He knew that he had that reckless driving conviction on his record, 116 miles an hour on an interstate,” Sabato said. “He knew about all the texts that he had sent, and obviously, he sent them to a Republican. Whatever the background was is almost irrelevant at this point, but he knew all those things were there, and he decided to run anyway. It's called egotism.”

Egoism. Not a quality anyone would want in an attorney general.

Vote accordingly.
