Spanberger’s Parole Board On A Freeing Spree
There are lots of reasons to vote NO on all three of Virginia’s unnecessary, far-left constitutional amendments.
Today we’ll talk about just one: The proposal to give felons their voting rights back, automatically. Yep, the left believes that even violent criminals should be allowed to vote as soon as they’re released from prison, whether or not they successfully completed probation or paid restitution to their victims.
It’s a terrible idea and frankly, I’d be embarrassed to be a member of a political party that counts on the felon vote to win elections.
But that’s just me.
Consider this: Gov. Abigail Spanberger, who bragged about her love of law enforcement and even suckered a few retired cops into campaigning with her, fired all of Glenn Youngkin’s tough-on-crime parole board and replaced them with far-left social justice warriors, pastors and sociologists.
According to Nick Minock of WJLA, Virginia’s criminals are now 10 times more likely to be tossed back into the community than they were before Spanberger became governor.
Lucky us.
The case of Troy A. Demar is instructive. On February 28, 1998 he stabbed his live-in girlfriend, Christine Allen, to death. He was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 40 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
By my calculation, Demar still owes us 12 years. But last week, Spanberger’s criminals-first parole board sprung him, over the strenuous objections of Christine’s family. The victim’s family pointed out that not only did Demar snuff out the life of Christine, but he left the couple’s then 3-month-old baby motherless.
Spangberger’s appointees dutifully shrugged off the tears of the family.
In fact, they gave the murdered a tongue bath, gushed about how well he’d performed in prison.
They’re absolutely thrilled to set him free.
“You have done so much,” one of the bleeding hearts blathered. “You've actually done more programming than most of the inmates we see or read about, um, and so I want to applaud you.”
She wants to applaud a cold-blooded murderer?
We’re in trouble, Virginia.
What part of 40 years without parole don’t Spanberger and her minions understand?
Back to that constitutional amendment. If it passes, people like convicted killer Demar will be allowed to vote immediately upon release.
Even if they haven’t completed their probation period.
Why the eagerness to get murderers into the voting booths, Abigail?
We all know the answer.
