Birthright Citizenship: Why Reward Illegal Aliens?
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky can be exhausting. One day he’s on board with smart legislation, the next he’s voting against a good bill because it isn’t perfect.
But when the doctor from Kentucky is right, he’s right.
He’s right.
The 14th Amendment - ratified in 1868 - was meant to grant citizenship and full legal rights to freed slaves after the Civil War.
It was never meant to give a green light to lawbreakers from every corner of the globe to come to sneak across our borders, drop babies and anchor themselves to their “American” children.
Neither was it intended for Chinese billionaires to rent American wombs and produce hundreds of future spies with American passports.
Yet, that’s apparently what happened recently when a surrogate mother learned From CBS News that she wasn’t carrying the baby of a childless man but that of a Chinese billionaire who has at least 100 other American babies.
If the U.S. Supreme Court won’t apply common sense to the Constitution, it’s time to amend that document and put an end to birth tourism, surrogacy and illegal anchor babies.
Look, according to the Pew Research Center, an estimated 300,000 babies are born in America each year to illegal alien mothers.
They should not be citizens of any country other than the ones their mothers left.
When mothers with temporary legal statues - guest workers, foreign students - are included in the total, the number of births rises to about 320,000 births a year. That’s almost 10% of all babies born in the United States.
End the madness. End birthright citizenship.
