They’re Baaaack.
I can’t be the only Virginian experiencing a form of PTSD after two days of the all-Democrat General Assembly session.
It’s as if the loathsome Ralph Northam was running the show again. You know, the guy who closed churches, masked toddlers and supported infanticide.
Despite all their talk about “affordability” - the new left-wing catchword for supposedly rolling back the high prices the Biden administration brought us - Virginia’s Dems immediately launched their radical plans.
Job one for the Democrats - HJ1 - is to enshrine a right to kill unborn children in Virginia, with essentially no restrictions. Oh, there’s some vague language about the 3rd trimester, but they’ll be killing babies right up until they draw their first breath in the Old Dominion once this passes.
Virginia will be an abortion destination for women from all over the South who live in states where the legislators respect life.
Look for the Democrats to deep-six HB531, the “Born Alive” bill that would require healthcare providers to attempt to save the life of any baby that survives an abortion.
Second on the Dem’s to-do list? Get felons the right to vote as quickly as possible with HJ2. Why not? Clearly Democrats expect criminals to cast their ballots for the soft-on-crime party.
This constitutional amendment would give felons the right to vote as soon as they’re released from prison, even if they haven’t paid restitution for their crimes.
Lucky us.
Third on the list? HJ3, a sop to the LGBTQ crowd by guaranteeing the right to same-sex marriage and removing the 2006 constitutional amendment that banned it. Virginia’s constitutional amendment was rendered unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2015.
This is essentially a housekeeping matter, although the left is couching it as a fear that SCOTUS will revisit same-sex marriage. Not going to happen, but it works to gin up fear of a conservative high court.
Finally, the crowning glory of the power-grubbing Virginia Democrats, HJ4.
The Return to Gerrymandering Amendment.
Four years ago Virginians overwhelmingly voted to use a non-partisan method of redrawing congressional districts after each census. Presently there are six Democrat districts and five Republican districts.
In the 2024 Presidential election Kamala Harris won 51.83 percent of the vote, with Donald Trump getting 46.05, proving that Virginia is a blue state, but there are a lot of Republicans here too.
In a naked grab for power, the Dems want to quickly undo the non-partisan redistricting amendment and allow for hasty redistricting before the 2026 mid-terms.
The Virginia Mercury caught up with Del.Israel O’Quinn, R-Washington who weighed in on the underhanded methods being used by Democrats .
Republicans warned the amendment reverses reforms voters approved just four years ago.
“We’re using this ‘end justifies the means’ method,” said O’Quinn. He argued that the amendment was improperly introduced after the 2025 election season had already begun and pointed to social media posts showing potential maps.
“It concerns me that we’re attempting to go back to the battle days of gerrymandering,” O’Quinn said.
That’s exactly what they’re doing. In fact, State Sen. Louise Lucas has bragged that they may go for 10 Dem districts and one Republican one.
The only way to stop this power grab is to storm the polls in April when the measure is put to a referendum.
See you there.
