Iryna Zaruska: She Died Alone
It gets worse.
The murder of Iryna Zaruska on a Charlotte, N.C. train is more heinous than we first thought. The full video of her slaying is out and it is so ghastly and disturbing that it’s difficult to watch. Out of respect for Ms. Zaruska and her family, we have chosen not to include the video in this post. However, for readers who feel it is essential to view, it can be accessed here.
The killer stabs her at least three times in the neck in rapid succession. Iryna seems unsure of what happened to her. She looks terrified and probably can’t cry out because her throat is slashed.
What adds to the horror is the disinterest in the young girl by the other passengers. As the murderer walks away, dripping blood and muttering “I got that white girl” they calmly look away, pack up their stuff and leave Iryna to die.
She slides off the seat, onto the floor and it is about two minutes before a young man comes from a different part of the train to help her.
He’s too late.
This young Ukrainian refugee was stabbed by an animal and left like an animal to bleed out on the dirty flood of a light rail car.
She saw the other passengers recoil from her. She was terrified and she knew she was all alone.
These were ordinary Americans who appeared to care nothing for the girl. They gathered their belongings and walked right by her as she died.
Shame on them.
This is a sign of something truly awful. Urban rot? Isolation? Zombies numbed by too many video games?
I don’t have an answer.
The state had 14 chances to put the murderer away before he killed Iryna. He was released on charges of violently attacking another woman earlier this year and a magistrate let him loose without a cash bond.
What the world needs now are more Daniel Pennys. Remember him? On May 1, 2023 this former Marine subdued and accidentally killed a maniac named Jordan Neely on the New York Subway system. Neely was behaving erratically and threatening passengers.
Penny neutralized the danger to the public by putting the madman in a chokehold that led to his death. Who knows how many innocent lives were saved by Penny’s refusal to look away.
New York thanked Penny by prosecuting him for manslaughter. But even a liberal New York jury wouldn’t convict him. Penny now works for a venture capital firm.
Sadly, there was no Daniel Penny to save Iryna or even to comfort her before she fell to the floor.
The crime of murder could have been avoided if the killer had been in prison where he belonged.
The crime of not caring about a fellow human? There’s no cure for that.
