Curbing DC Crime And Evicting Hobos Are Not The Actions Of A Dictator
If you clapped like a trained seal when blue state governors closed churches, schools and beaches in 2020, I don’t want to hear a word from you about President Trump being a dictator as he exercises his legal authority to restore safety to the nation’s capital.
If you happily wore a face diaper for months - and scolded those of us who didn’t - if you eagerly rolled up your sleeve for an experimental vaccine, if you thought it was fine for the governor to tell you how many people you could have in your home, I don’t want to hear a word from you about Trump being an authoritarian.
If you supported vaccine mandates, if you wanted the unvaxxed to stay in their homes, if you were fine with draconian rules that left dying patients separated from their loved ones, you’ve already signaled that you don’t value American civil liberties and no none wants to hear your opinions on Donald Trump.
Yep, I’m talking about covid again because it was a shockingly dark time in American history. We not only witnessed the government stripping citizens of their civil rights but - worse - we watched America’s sheep merrily surrender their freedom as they cheered for the newly authoritarian government.
Now some of those very same people have found their voices. They’ve joined a Greek chorus of lefties protesting in favor of crime in Washington and the “rights” of vagrants to erect tent cities, live on the streets and defecate on city sidewalks.
We finally have a president who is angry that the District of Columbia is the carjacking capital of the country. Trump wants the federal district to be a shining place that’s safe for visitors and residents alike. He has the absolute right under Home Rule to declare an emergency and take over the police force for 30 days.
Shoot, even the president of the DC Metro police union welcomes the federal help.
On Tuesday the president took this action by invoking Section 740 of the Home Rule Act.
In a statement, Trump charged that the District of Columbia - not a city in the traditional sense, but a federal district - has a staggeringly high crime rate. Several months ago two young Israeli diplomats were gunned down in Washington, a Capitol Hill intern was murdered and just last week a member of the DOGE team, nicknamed Big Balls, was brutally beaten by a gang of teenaged thugs as he tried to protect a woman from a carjacking. These are high-profile crimes. The more mundane crimes ones go unreported by the news industry and often unpunished by D.C.’s “justice” system.
In 2024, the District of Columbia averaged one of the highest robbery and murder rates of large cities nationwide. Indeed, the District of Columbia now has a higher violent crime, murder, and robbery rate than all 50 States, recording a homicide rate in 2024 of 27.54 per 100,000 residents. It also experienced the Nation’s highest vehicle theft rate with 842.4 thefts per 100,000 residents — over three times the national average of 250.2 thefts per 100,000 residents.
Calling in the National Guard to assist the police, to round up the homeless and take them to shelters are not the actions of a dictator. They re the acts of someone who wants safe streets and help for those who are living rough.
Fact is, we had tinpot dictators in blue state governor’s mansions around the country during covid. And the lefties loved them.
Several of these dangerous politicians - Newsom, Pritzker, Whitmer, Walz - reportedly have their eyes on the White House.
Want to talk dictators? Start with these arrogant despots.
