Good Grief. Who’d Campaign With Ralph Northam?
I’m not in the business of offering advice to political candidates. But I’m making an exception this time.
Message to former Del. Jay Jones: Campaigning with Ralph Northam is a bad idea.
Really bad.
Virginia has had many good governors, both Republican and Democrat. Couldn’t you convince one of them to campaign with you? Terry McAuliffe, for instance. He’s funny, engaging and has boundless energy. Doug Wilder is one of the best retail politicians in the country, an elder Virginia statesman and an iconic figure.
Both are charismatic. But Northam?
The Times-Dispatch reports that the Jones campaign is launching a “six figure ad buy” featuring the former governor in his quest to secure the Democrat nomination for Virginia Attorney General.
Need I remind you of those blackface photos of Ralph? (Or was he the person in the Klan costume? I was never quite sure.)
This man demonstrated poor judgment over and over.
Then there was Northam’s reign of terror during covid. Many of us haven’t forgotten the nutty rules Northam imposed during his dreaded Thursday press conferences. Every single week, this power-drunk governor took pleasure in stomping the civil rights of Virginians.
He closed churches but left liquor stores open. Remember that?
He allowed people to walk, exercise and fish on the beaches but they couldn’t sit down. That was so sciency!
He forced children to wear masks. You have a little one now. Can you imagine trying to keep a slobbery mask on that precious child’s face?
You want to run for attorney general. I don’t think you want to be closely associated with a little tyrant.
Look, I’ve lived in Virginia since 1975 and Ralph Northam was the worst governor Virginia’s had in the past half century. It’s not even close.
