Trump’s Reaction To The Reiner Murder Was Ugly

Trump’s Reaction To The Reiner Murder Was Ugly

President Donald Trump shocked many observers in September 2020 when he was informed by a member of the press that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died.

The president’s reaction was gracious and respectful. He could have been gleeful at the prospect of one more Supreme Court appointment, or at the demise of one of his antagonists, but - outwardly at least - he wasn’t.

Contrast that with Trump’s cruel and classless reaction to Rob Reiner’s ghastly murder on Monday.

Rob Reiner was a talented actor and director who for decades entertained millions of Americans. He gave us many incredible films. Rob Reiner was also a husband and father and a human being. To have his throat slit, presumably by his own son, is an unspeakable tragedy.

Trump’s Monday post on Truth Social, reacting to the news, is abhorrent and ugly. It mimics the sort of nasty reactions the left had to Charlie Kirk’s murder. And frankly, it’s the sort of hideous comment many lefties made when Trump was nearly assassinated.

There was no need for the president to sink to this level. In fact, there was no need for him to say anything at all. The president is not obligated to speak out on every news event.

Sometimes it’s best to stay silent.

Yes, I voted for Trump. I’d do it again. I agree with most of his policies.

But this narcissistic, tone-deaf comment on a horrific double murder was callous and mean. He heaped pain upon the grieving and showed a lack of basic humanity.

Trump would do himself and his supporters a favor if he’d apologize.

Sadly, it’s not in his nature.
