Women’s Hockey Team: Champions Not Victims
Let’s see, who’s a victim today.
Oh look, it’s America’s gold medal women’s hockey team. You’d think they’d be chuffed about their amazing run through the Olympics, which ended in an overtime win over Canada.
But no. Egged on by woke sports writers (who knew there were so many?) and man-hating feminists, the athletes have turned an offhand comment into a micro aggression and themselves from champions into a team full of cranky little girls.
They’re offended because President Donald Trump cracked a mild joke when he was on the phone after the men’s team won the gold on Sunday.
Hilary Knight, captain of the women’s team, speaking at a Wednesday news conference, told reporters: “I just thought the joke was distasteful and unfortunate.”
Oh, please.
Both the president and the players were in high spirits as he congratulated them on their big win and invited them to the White House and the State of the Union address on Tuesday. Trump told them he’d also have to invite the women’s team or he’d be impeached.
"What would really be cool — and we’ll do the White House next time — we’ll just have some fun, we have medals for you guys. And we have to, I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that?" Trump said, adding "I do believe that I would probably be impeached,"
The horror.
Never mind that it was all in good fun. The players laughed, a couple yelled “two for two” and they generally cheered the idea of sharing the stage with the women.
But in our age where the left parses every word Trump or his supporters utter, searching for the slightest whiff of racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia or misogyny this was catnip.
Former Washington Post sports writer, Sally Jenkins, who now works for the Atlantic deleted her X account, but not before she tinkled all over the men’s win claiming that the WNBA was more popular than the NHL.
What a hack.
USAToday writer Mary Clarke scribbled a piece headlined,”The USA Men’s Hockey Team Utterly Failed To Meet The Cultural Moment.” No point in reading the rest of her drivel.
Social media was filled with awful women cheering on the ridiculous non-controversy.
What a loon. And she isn’t alone. There are an army of miserable women searching everywhere for micro aggressions they can lose their minds over.
Look, hockey players are tough athletes. The men’s team was in the stands cheering on the women at the Olympics. The women cheered the men. There was an opportunity for both hockey teams to bask together in the glow of Olympic victory,
Instead, the prickly females are acting more like little girls than world-class athletes.
How much better for women’s hockey if they’d laughed it off, gone to the White House and brought positive publicity for their sport.
Instead, they’re choosing victimhood. They can’t decide if they’ll actually go to the White House, but they’ve definitely arranged a play date with Flava Flav who has a history of domestic violence spanning several decades.
Smart, girls. Very smart.
