Bring On The Theatrics: It’s State Of The Union Time!
Oh Lord, here we go again.
It’s State of the Union day. And you know what that means: Democrats will make a churlish spectacle of themselves as they allow their seething hatred of President Trump override any remnants of civility they might possess.
During Trump’s first term, the vile Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, made an ass of herself as she theatrically ripped up his speech.
Last year, after Trump had been in office one month, childish Democrats carried signs, booed and then sat on their hands, refusing to honor the mother of slain Laken Riley or Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, the 13-year-old fighting brain cancer who dreamed of joining the Secret Service.
Dem leadership doesn't want a repeat, according to The Hill.
A year ago, during the first congressional address of Trump’s second term, Democrats churned headlines for a series of in-your-face demonstrations from the floor of the House chamber, where many lawmakers held signs accusing Trump of lying, others walked out midspeech, and Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) made waves by standing and heckling the president with a cane pointed at the dais — an extraordinary scene that led to Green’s ejection from the room.
This time around, Democratic leaders want to avoid a repeat of those theatrics.
Seems many elected Democrats can’t control themselves, so they’re skipping the speech altogether. Eighteen of them at last count, although the number seems to be climbing. Not content with simply leaving their seats vacant, each member made a grand announcement on X, inviting a plethora of sarcastic responses.
That’s OK, the theater kids won’t be missed. In fact, the gold medal USA men’s hockey team may be in their seats. The president invited them, and the members didn’t hesitate.
“We’re in!” They responded.
By contrast, the gold medal women’s team turned down an invite from Trump. Of course they did. Sigh.
Skipping the speech may be a gross miscalculation. It gives the president an opportunity to turn the chamber into a Trump rally.
Funny thing is, despite their counter celebrations, you know all the truant members of Congress will be watching.
