Buckle Up. The General Assembly Is On Its Way.

Buckle Up. The General Assembly Is On Its Way.

Virginia’s General Assembly convenes tomorrow in Richmond. But a handful of pre-filed bills give us a taste of what’s to come when Democrats come roaring back into power.

Remember when Virginia Democrats promised to make Virginia more ”affordable?”

Yeah, about that.

Not sure how authorizing localities to impose an additional sales tax will make life more affordable.

Ask a Democrat.

Oh, and while you’re at it, ask them about Del. Dan Helmer’s bill that clearly expresses distrust in Virginia teachers. He wants to be sure they fully indoctrinate students in the proper loathing of President Donald Trump by forcing teachers to deliver lessons on the events of January 6, 2021 that depict the riots as a violent instead urrection.

Are teachers given scripts when they teach about the Holocaust? Any other historical event?

Wait, just this one?

Do we really want legislators meddling in lesson plans?

Meanwhile, Mamie Locke of Hampton is the patron of SB19, a confusing education bill that appears to allow schools to keep sexually explicit books available to elementary school children.

Ok, here’s one piece of legislation that should make the soft-on-crime crowd happy:

Take a gander at HB318, the brainchild of Arlington Democrat Patrick Hope. This bill would increase the size of the parole board, give the speaker of the house some appointment power and appears to make it easier to parole juvenile offenders.

That’s what we want: Young criminals back on the streets as quickly as possible so they don’t waste their peak crime-committing years in prison.

More to come. They’re just getting started.
