So It’s Not The End Of Free Speech?
REMEMBER: TWO COMMENTS ONLY
Wait a minute.
We were reliably informed by thousands of hysterical lefties that Donald Trump cancelled Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night TV show last week after the host lied about the political affiliation of the suspected killer of Charlie Kirk.
This suspension was a sign of the End Times, they shrieked. The end of democracy. The end of free speech.
The end of late-night shows, no matter how far they strayed from comedy.
Some leftists threatened to leave the country over the Kimmel suspension. Others cancelled their Disney subscriptions and trips to Disney theme parks. One disgruntled man was arrested for shooting up an ABC office building - with workers inside - in Sacramento.
Other unfunny late-night comics shook their tiny fists in solidarity with their fallen brother: Colbert, O’Brien, Letterman and Fallon dutifully weighed in.
According to them, the Stalinists in the Trump administration were silencing anyone who criticized the president. Trump was using the FCC to threaten broadcast licenses and to gag their brave stars.
But on Monday, when it was announced that Kimmel would be back on the air Tuesday night, it was clear that one of two things had happened:
Either Trump changed his mind and embraced the comic.
Or wait. It was simply a case of an employee being reprimanded by his employer.
After all, the official announcement was made by Disney. Not Trump.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Yep. Straight from the company that owns the Kimmel show and writes his paychecks.
Could it be? Was the decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel made by his bosses who thought he acted like a jackass and wanted to send him a message? Could it be that they jerked him off the air because allowing him to insult half the country in the aftermath of the Kirk assassination was not only be in terrible taste, but bad for business?
Turns out the left got its hair on fire over a workplace dispute. And some gun-happy leftist schmuck in California is going to prison over Kimmel’s paid vacation.
Alas, Kimmel’s problems are not over.
The man who turned what was once a treasured comedy hour into 60 minutes of unrelenting malignant politics, is finding out that ABC affiliates may not air his resuscitated show.
Turns out most ABC stations are owned by independent station groups. Together, Nexstar and Sinclair own 66 ABC affiliates.
Sinclair owns 38 stations including WJLA, serving Northern Virginia and the Washington Metro area.
The affiliates, not the White House, will decide the future of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
