Dems Flock To Dick Cheney’s Funeral

Dems Flock To Dick Cheney’s Funeral

Here’s something that would have been unthinkable in 2008: Dick Cheney dies and his chief mourners are Democrats.

Yep, the “maestro of terror” as Rachel Maddow dubbed the former vice president, was given a send-off by the very people who once hated him.

In fact, it was a surreal spectacle on display yesterday at the Washington National Cathedral. Nestled alongside former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Mike Pence was one-time Cheney hater Nancy Pelosi, leftist news anchor Maddow, James Carville, Adam Schiff, Jamie Raskin, Al Gore, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Washington swamp creatures were out in full force.

When he was vice president, Dick Cheney was absolutely reviled by the left. The most popular slur sung at the former Halliburton executive in the early 2000s was “war criminal.”

But there were more terms of “endearment.” Many more. In about 60 seconds Grok found these:

  • "The most dangerous vice president we've had probably in American history" (used by Joe Biden)

  • "Warmonger"

  • "Architect of the Iraq War" or "chief architect of the 'Global War on Terror'"

  • "Darth Vader" (a widely known pop culture reference to his perceived dark, powerful, and humorless nature)

  • "Genocidal terrorist" (used by some individuals in social media comments, a more extreme term)

  • "Ogre" or "supervillain" (used metaphorically by some commentators to describe how he was perceived by the left)

  • "Butcher of Baghdad" (a name used by some critics, though more commonly associated with Saddam Hussein's regime figures, it was sometimes invoked in relation to the Iraq war's consequences)

  • "King of Endless, Nonsensical Wars" (used by Donald Trump, but reflective of some Democratic sentiment at the time)

  • "Hate magnet" (a term used by Peggy Noonan, a Republican, but one that described the strong negative feelings many Democrats had toward him)

  • "Self-aggrandizing criminal"

I could go on.

So what happened in the past 25 years to fill the pews at the National Cathedral yesterday with Democrats from Al Gore to Anthony Fauci and others?

Trump Derangement Syndrome.

The Washington establishment’s loathing of Trump, coupled  with their reverence for Dick’s daughter, Liz, who endeared herself to the left by screaming non-stop about the January 6th riot, caused Dick’s worst enemies to don their funeral duds and publicly pretend to mourn the politician from Wyoming who was blamed for everything from endless bloody wars to torture and corruption.

MSNBC actually live-streamed the service. I didn’t have THAT on my bingo card.

Two prominent politicians were noticeably absent: President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. They were not invited.

That was a deliberate, nasty snub by the fading Cheney/Bush diehards.

Frankly, many of us never want to see Trump and Vance hobnobbing with these aging members of America’s uniparty.
